About NoteFren

NoteFren is a study companion that turns the material you already have into practice. Bring typed notes, PDFs, slides, photos of handwritten pages, recorded lectures, or a YouTube link, and NoteFren builds flashcards, quizzes, and study games from it, schedules your reviews with spaced repetition, and listens as you explain a topic out loud so it can follow up where your understanding is thin.

Who makes NoteFren

NoteFren is designed, built, and operated by Loona Brands, a small software company based in Florida, United States. We started NoteFren in 2024 after watching students spend more time making study materials than actually studying. The team works on the iPhone app, the web app, and the learning content on this site.

We are an independent company. NoteFren is funded by its subscriptions, and there is no advertising in the product.

What NoteFren does

The product is available in the browser at notefren.app and as an iPhone and iPad app on the App Store. Both share one account, so a deck made on the web is ready on the phone and vice versa.

  • AI flashcards: Turn notes, PDFs, slides, audio, and YouTube videos into question-and-answer cards automatically.
  • Handwriting scanning: Photograph handwritten notes with the iPhone app and NoteFren digitizes them into text and cards.
  • Quizzes and study games: Practice the same material as multiple-choice and true/false quizzes, match games, and quick review.
  • Explain it out loud: Talk a topic through and NoteFren asks follow-up questions about the parts you skipped, in the spirit of the Feynman technique.
  • Spaced repetition: Reviews are scheduled right before you would forget, so studying takes less total time.
  • Notes as a podcast: Turn a set of notes into an audio episode to review while walking or commuting.

How we think about learning

Every study mode in NoteFren is built around retrieval practice and spaced review, the two techniques with the strongest evidence in learning research. We prefer methods that make you recall and explain over methods that make you reread. Where the research is unsettled, we say so on our science page instead of overstating a result.

Privacy and data

Your notes and study data belong to you. We use them to build your flashcards and track your progress, and we do not sell them. The full details, including how AI processing works and how to delete your account, are in our privacy policy.
